Yunus Emre Foundation is a public foundation, which was founded to promote Turkey, Turkish language, its history and culture and art, make such related information and documents available for use in the world, provide services abroad to people who want to have education in the fields of Turkish language, culture and art, to improve the friendship between Turkey and other countries and increase the cultural exchange.

Department of Turkish Education teaches Turkish domestically and abroad in line with scientific methods and at international standards. Within this framework, the Department prepares all required tools and education materials.

Starting to operate in 2009, it has more than 40 cultural centres abroad.  Apart from the Turkish education given in the cultural centres, Turkology departments and Turkish teaching are supported with the co-operations made with different educational institutions in different countries. Several activities are organized to promote our culture and art through cultural centres, and our country is represented through national or international events.

Ankara University TÖMER (acronym for Türkçe Öğretim Merkezi) was founded in 1984 with the aim of teaching Turkish to foreigners by patterning leading language and culture centers of the world. 

TÖMER carried out its activities as the first and only institution to teach Turkish as a foreign language in 1980s. In the academic year of 1989-1990, it started teaching English, French and German; then, gradually, along with the many other foreign languages, the Eurasian Turkish Languages are being taught at the moment. These studies in the field of language have enabled TÖMER to gain identity as scientific based language center and to develop new methods and techniques for teaching foreign languages.
